Airedale Terrier
The Airedale Terrier is a terrier breed with wiry fur .
They are the largest of the terriers , protective family pet. They are quite strong willed and independent but can be trained with patience. Because of their type of coat they are less likely to bother people with allergies. They don’t require too much attention and will reward you with years of love and fun.
Breed Specifics
Airedales should be about 23 inches in height. They should weigh between 50 to 70 pounds. They have a rough wiry top coat and a soft undercoat. They are interesting in appearance with short fur and a long face with longer fur on the face.
History
Airedales are a working dog. Traditionally a hunting dog they were used in WW1 to carry messages and find wounded soldiers they were well known for their courage and bravery in this capacity.
Medical Concerns
The Airedale Terrier has few genetic medical concerns. Hip displasia seems to be the most common concern in this breed. Airedales have been known to live up to 17 years but most commonly to around 12 or 14.
Grooming and Care
Airedales require extensive grooming of their coat.. To maintain the coat to breed standards it must be hand stripped using a serrated brush that strips out the loose hairs.
