What Can A Parakeet Eat?
You've got your new feathered friend home and have standard seed, but like all pet owners you want to reward him with special treats.
Of course, you don’t want to feed him anything that will make him sick so you are wondering just what can a parakeet eat that will be nutritious for him and taste good too!
You should remember to keep the bulk of your parakeets diet to seed mixes and pellets, but he can also eat many of the fruits and veggies that you eat. While you are preparing some food for yourself you can save out a little bit for your bird and he will love it!
What Can A Parakeet Eat?
Leafy greens area must for parakeets and can be clipped to the side of his cage to allow for grazing. You can also feed him pineapples, apples, banana , peas, carrots, broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini.
He will even enjoy sprouted seeds and grasses. Be sure to wash any store bought fruits and vegetable thoroughly to remove pesticides. You can leave the fruits and vegetables in his cage for a couple of hours, but don’t leave them in there long enough to spoil.
You should not feed your parakeet avocados, dairy products, fruit seeds, potatoes, cabbage, green beans, lemons, rhubarb, grapefruit, plums and, of course, caffeine, chocolate, and alchohol. Any of these can be harmful and even fatal to your feathered friend!
